EcoFuel Asia Tour with Worthington CNG cylinders

The project

The aim of the tour is to prove the reliability
of natural gas vehicles for long distances
under extreme conditions, like heat, dust,
stony dirt roads and altitudes up to 5000
metres in Tibet and Nepal. The team around
the EcoFuel Asia Tour uses a VW Caddy series
vehicle equipped with Worthington steel CNG
cylinders and will go from Berlin via
Shanghai to Bangkok.

The technology

The Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel used for this
journey is a series vehicle with a CNGoptimised
2-litre petrol engine producing 80
KW (109 HP). The vehicle comes with a
standard set of four under-floor Worthington
steel tanks and a 13-litre petrol tank.

The tour

The marathon journey started on 17th
September in Berlin and will lead to Russia,
the Middle East and India, before the team
reaches China and visits the
Challengebibendum in Shanghai on 14th and
15th November. After 22,000 kilometres and
10 weeks, the Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel will
be presented at the 2nd Biennial Conference
and Exhibition of the Asia Pacific Natural Gas
Vehicles Association that takes place in
Bangkok from 27th to 29th November where
Worthington Cylinders GmbH will be an
exhibitor.
